Self-focusing of an intense relativistic electron beam in a conical diode

Abstract

Self-focusing of a 200 kV, 3kA, 30 J pulsed electron beam was observed in a field emission conical diode. High current densities up to 5 MA cm2 were measured at the anode tip. A fluid type calculation corroborates the formation of the beam focus.
