Abstract
A circular shift-invariant Walsh power spectrum for periodic sequences is defined, and an algorithm for its computation is presented. For a sequence with period N equals 2**n, the power spectrum contains N/2 plus 1 spectral components, each one representing a distinct sequency. Low-sequency spectral components of the boundary angular function phi * of C. T. Zahn and R. Z. Roskies are used as shape descriptors. The discrimination between handwritten numerals using the Walsh shape descriptors is demonstrated.
