Abstract

In this paper the historical development of the flow measurement through the centuries, from the dawning until today, is reviewed. The evolution of the main categories of flowmeter is sketched out following the contributions of the main researchers and scientists to the flow measurement development. Finally, on the basis of market indications, the future trends of the flow measurement in some specific field of application are outlined.
