Abstract

Research was devoted to the development of bipolar membranes to work efficiently in the acid/base generation process ('closed direction' of the membrane's operation). This task could not be achieved with monolithic single-film membranes even if their preparation procedure was modified. We prepared composite bipolar membranes which gave much more satisfactory results. The efficiency of these membranes during continuous operation of a small electrodialysis unit (10-20 triple cells, 120 cm**2 membrane area) is presently being tested.
