Abstract

The solubility of chlorodifluoromethane (R-22) and 1,2-dichlorotetrafluoroethane (R-114) in jojoba oil has been measured in a wide range of pressures and temperatures. Both gases show negative deviations from Raoult's law. Higher solubilities for refrigerant R-22 can be explained on the basis of hydrogen bonding with the ester group of jojoba oil. Values of Henry's constant, partial enthalphy, partial entropy, and partial volume of solution in jojoba oil have been determined for both gases. Solutions of R-22 in jojoba oil may find use in absorption-refrigeration cycles.
