Abstract

Standard molar enthalpies of formation ΔfHo m at the temperature T = 298.15 K have been determined from calorimetric measurements of the enthalpies of reaction ΔfHo m of six compositions in the Zr(AlxFe1 - x)2 pseudobinary system with (hydrofluoric acid + nitric acid). The following results (with uncertainties given as twice the standard deviation of the mean) are reported. See Table. Previous thermodynamic studies of the terminal compositions (x = 0, 1) have been reviewed, and the following quantities at T = 298.15 K are recommended: ΔfHo m(ZrFe2) = -(75 ± 6) kJ·mol-1 and ΔfHo m(ZrAl2) = -(147 ± 7) kJ·mol-1.
