Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to provide an approach for analyzing decision making problems under certainty conditions. The model assumes that the indifference curves are linear but the rates of substitution may vary within the attribute space. The approach includes (1) the Constrained Choice Table (CCT) for eliciting a decision maker's rates of substitution and (2) an η attribute model for formulating these rates of substitution into a linear-fractional value function. The approach also includes a mechanism for identifying and correcting any inconsistencies in the decision maker's responses. The development of the model and its application are demonstrated by a consumer choice example.
