Abstract

A series of ortho‐substituted 1,1,1‐trifluoro‐2,2‐diphenylethanes (I) has been prepared from the appropriate ω,ω,ω‐trifluoroacetophenones via the corresponding secondary alcohols. 2,2,2‐Trifluoro‐1,1‐diphenylethanols are converted by thionyl chloride into the corresponding 1‐chloro‐derivatives and the latter dehalogenated to (I) by means of sodium hydride.
