Abstract
STRUCTURAL CHANGES THAT TAKE PLACE IN LOW-CARBON STEELS DURING FRICTION WERE STUDIED INCLUDING THE DISTRIBUTION AND DENSITY OF DISLOCATIONS IN THE DEPTH OF THE METAL LAYER DEFORMED BY FRICTION.QUANTITATIVE DATA ARE GIVEN OF THE CHANGE IN DISLOCATION DENSITY WITH DEPTH BELOW THE FRICTIONAL SURFACE.PHYSICAL CAUSES ARE SUGGESTED FOR THE REDISTRIBUTION OF DISLOCATIONS IN THE DEPTH OF THE DEFORMED LAYER OF METAL.
