Abstract

The magnetic ordering temperatures of rare earth and yttrium-iron Laves compounds have been determined by measuring the specific heat anomalies in a differential scanning calorimeter. The results are in general agreement with those deduced from magnetization measurements. The specific heat discontinuities at the magnetic ordering temperatures are not consistent with the theoretical expressions derived for ferrites.
