Abstract

In the present work, recoilless absorption measurements of the 14. 4 keV gamma rays of Fe**5**7 in SmFe//2 were carried out, at various temperatures, between 4 and 300 K. The results show the existence of a wide transition region extending approximately from 120 to 230 K. In this region, the direction of magnetization is not parallel to one of the major axes of symmetry. The present results can be fitted assuming that in the transition region the direction of magnetization changes continuously from the left bracket 110 right bracket direction to the left bracket 111 right bracket direction, as a function of temperature.
