Abstract

Spontaneous splenic rupture as the presenting sign in a 23 yr old patient with acute lymphoblastic leukemia is described. The large size of the spleen (2.750 kg) is unusual, particularly in acute leukemia. There was a remarkable decrease in the white blood count, and blasts disappeared from the peripheral blood during the first eight days after splenectomy without any other treatment. The course of the disease was stormy, and involvement of the central and peripheral nervous systems led to death within 7 mth.
