Abstract

The partial molar characteristics of titanium and carbon in titanium carbides of variable composition are evaluated. The phase equilibrium conditions in the Fe-Ti-C and Ni-Ti-C systems are analyzed and isothermal sections through the phase diagrams are constructed. The variations in composition of the metallic binder and refractory phase are discussed with reference to the liquid phase sintering of composites consisting of titanium carbide and steel.
