Abstract
1. The stereochemistry of the reaction of diethylamine with diacetylene depends on the nature of the solvent and the temperature. 2. The formation of a mixture of the cis and trans isomers is caused by a difference in protonating the transition state and is amenable to both thermodynamic and kinetic control.
