Abstract

Loessial deposits, up to 12m thick, form a continous cover in the NW-Negev. The rate of dust deposition is on the average 0.1mm/yr, based on present day dust accumulation measurements and on a single 14C date. The stratigraphy is dominated by 6 paleosols (Calciorthids), easily recognisable through the presence of white calcium carbonate nodules. The lithostratigraphy of the loessial sediments is characterized by cyclic variations in the coarse silt and clay content, thought to reflect climatic fluctuations. -from Authors
