Abstract
The main disadvantage of magnesium alloys relates to their corrosion performance and in particular to their stress corrosion cracking (SCC) behavior under combined service conditions. This paper describes the significant increase in SCC sensitivity of consolidated nano /sub-micron E906 magnesium alloy in 0.9% NaCl solution. The experimental results obtained in terms of slow strain rate tensile testing in chloride-containing solution are explained by a combined SCC mechanism.
