Abstract
The appearance of structural turbulence in polyisobutylene solutions at low Reynolds numbers has been detected and analyzed. This type of turbulence is characterized by a critical shear stress rather than a critical Reynolds number. The critical shear stress decreases with increasing molecular weights of dilution. The role of deformability of the polymer chains under shear flow is found to be significant.
