The 96, 98Mo(p, t) reactions are measured at a proton energy of 40 MeV. Two-nucleon transfer DWBA calculations are used to extract spin and parity assignments. Several new Jπ assignments are made. Enhancement factors are extracted assuming the simplest neutron configuration. The effects of higher orbits on the transition strength is demonstrated by the use of wave functions based on single neutron pick-up results. Comparisons are made to (p, t) results on the even Zr isotopes. We conclude that the two additional protons in Mo compared to Zr strongly affect the neutron structure in the heavier Mo isotopes.
