Abstract
This work attempts to compare the SERS spectra of 2,2′-bipyridine on colloidal silver and a model photoemulsion-gelatin-stabilized AgBr sol. X-ray analysis, NMR, and quantum mechanical calculations reveal that the molecules of 2,2′-bipyridine exhibit planar trans-conformation. At the same time, 2,2′-bipyridine in cis-conformation readily forms the chelate complexes with different metals. Photophysical properties of 2,2′-bipyridine are studied in detail, and the analysis of vibrational spectra with assignment of the normal modes is also performed.
