Abstract

The capture γ-ray spectrum resulting from thermal-neutron capture in 47Ti has been measured using a 30-cm3 Ge(Li) detector and angular-correlation measurements carried out using NaI(Tl) detectors. Some 28 γ lines corresponding to transitions between levels of 48Ti were observed, and the neutron separation energy of Ti48 was determined to be 11.630±0.008 MeV. The following assignments of spins and parities for some levels were made: 2.422(1+, 2+, 3+), 3.626(2+, 4+), 3.794(2+, 3+, 4+), and 4.467(2+, 3+). The results of a comparison between the measured strengths of exciting the Ti48 levels in the (n,γ) and (d,p) reactions are discussed.
