Abstract

Nuclear resonance scattering of photons from 15N has been used to study the orientation of the HNO3 intercalant molecule with respect to the graphite planes. In the second-stage compound C10(HNO3) and the temperature range T = 15°K - 300°, no orientational phase transition was observed and the NO3 molecular plane was found to be oriented at an angle θ {reversed tilde} 82 ± 8° with respect to the graphite planes.
