Abstract

The commission of property crime is an economic activity with characteristics similar to those of multiproduct firms. Thus, the level of one type of property crime is not independent of the levels of the other crimes. The paper analyzes the substitution among the few types of property crime in a simultaneous equations model which takes into account police inputs and outputs and analyzes the change in the composition of crimes as localities grow.
