Abstract

This is a theoretical and experimental investigations of a small scale supersonic COIL, utilizing a chemical generator, a grid nozzle and a pumping system. In particular, iodine and oxygen mixing in the nozzles of the laser is observed with respect to its effect on the overall performance of the COIL. The effect is calculated using a simple, one-dimensional leak flow tube model. These calculations are compared to the power output of the laser in order to obtain a reliable model capable of reproducing and predicting the laser performance under various conditions.
