N2 - Pelvic organ prolapse is a common and bothersome problem that affects women's work, traveling, physical exercise, sleep, and sexual function. Synthetic implants show superiority in reducing recurrence of pelvic organ prolapse. However, inserting foreign materials carries an increased risk of complications. In this article containing the most updated available literature, we look back at the history of synthetic mesh repair, examine its efficacy and advantages, assess common complications, review current opinions, and look at the future for ways to improve the use of mesh for better results and fewer complications in an attempt to improve women's quality of life.
