Governing equations are derived for bending of a bilayer beam under equilibrium swelling. The beam is made by stacking of as-prepared gel films with different physical properties. When the structure is immersed into an aqueous solution, swelling of the layers induces its bending. Water uptake by the layers is modeled within the theory of constrained swelling with finite strains, whereas bending is considered as a small perturbation of the equilibrium swollen state. The effect of mismatches in material parameters of the layers on the curvature of the bilayer beam is studied numerically.
