Abstract
The complexes [Cp'Cr(CO)2]2(μ-Se) (1) and [Cp'Cr(CO)2]2(μ-Se2) (2) were prepared by the reaction of [Cp'Cr(CO)3]2, where Cp' = CH3C5H4, with elemental selenium. Complexes 1 and 2 are analogues of the [CpCr(CO)2]2(μ-Se) and [CpCr(CO)2]2(μ-Se2) complexes containing the nonsubstituted cyclopentadienyl ligand, which have been described previously. Irradiation of a mixture of complex 1 and diphenylacetylene afforded single crystals of [Cp'CrSe]4·2(Ph2C2) (3). Isolated Ph2C2 molecules are located in cavities of the crystal lattice formed by the tetranuclear [Cp'CrSe]4 clusters. The structures of complexes 2 (Se-Se, 2.261 Å; Cr-Se, 2.537-2.548 Å) and 3 (Cr-Cr, 3.009(1) Å; Cr-Se, 2.395(1) Å) were established by X-ray diffraction analysis.
