Abstract
Air-stable iron-iron carbide nanocrystalline particles were synthesized. Preparation was conducted by sonochemical decomposition of Fe(CO)5 in diphenylmethane. The nanocrystalline particles obtained exhibited strong resistance to oxidation with oxygen. The high resolution transmission electron microscopy picture showed that iron particles were covered by a crystalline shell with a thickness of about 3mm.
