Abstract

Overall water splitting electrocatalyst produces hydrogen and oxygen gas in two half-reactions. In the process of designing a new bifunctional electrocatalyst, here we present the HER and OER study of Fe-doped MoS2 nanosheets prepared by a cost-effective and simple chemical method. In 1 M KOH electrolyte, the HER overpotential of 785 mV for undoped MoS2 has decreased to 572 mV after 15 at% Fe doping. Similarly, the OER onset potential has decreased from 1.76 to 1.63 V after 15 at% Fe doping in MoS2. The bifunctional nature of Fe-doped MoS2 nanosheets is established after observing large anodic and cathodic current densities at lower overpotentials during HER and OER measurements.
