Abstract

1. The free radical telomerization of dimethylvinylethynylcarbinol (DVC) and its methyl ether (MED) in polyhalomethane medium was investigated. 2. In CCl4 medium DVC and MED form only higher telomers with a number of monomer units in the molecule nav ≥ 20, even at a ratio telogen:monomer - 20:1. In the telomerization of MED in CBr4 medium, telomers with values of n equal to one and two were isolated. 3. According to the data of IR and NMR spectroscopy of the products obtained, the free radical telomerizatioD of DVC and MED proceeds selectively at the vinyl group, with conservation of the acetylenic bond. Only at the end of the molecular chain of the telomer can an allene group be present. 4. The product of the addition of CBr4 to one molecule of MED (n=1) represents a mixture of approximately equal amounts of acetylenic and allenic adducts.
