Abstract

Experimental β--strength functions (Sβ) are presented for the odd-mass Rb isotope sequence A=89to97. As expected from general nuclear structure considerations, but in contrast to present purely statistical concepts, these strength functions exhibit well separated ``pygmy'' resonances and a systematic behaviour as a function of mass number and β-decay energy.
