Abstract

The paper discusses design principles of such shells, which are capable of roofing large spans, are simple to erect, and can be repeatedly assembled and disassembled. They consist of an enveloping surface made of a cable network or some other flexible material, which is stabilized by stressing bars. These bars are connected at their ends to the envelope only, without touching one another. The arrangement of the bars of the tensegric shell for two different geometric shapes is presented.
