Abstract
A complete small-scale power conversion facility with a two-phase liquid-metal MHD generator has been built and tested. The working fluids were mercury and Refrigerant-113, and the working temperature was 80°C. The flow characteristics and the electrical current output have been measured and the efficiencies calculated. Because a complete system of this type has never before been built, it is significant that the facility has performed properly and produced net power for about 1000 h to date.
