Textual emendations based on style and syntax

Abstract

In this essay I discuss four short poetic units, each of which I suggest to be in need of a textual emendation. In the first two cases (Isa 17:11; 58:10), it seems to me that it is possible to change a vowel in one of the words, while in the last two cases (Gen 49:25; Ps 37:34–36) it is possible to make the biblical text more understandable by changing a letter in one of the words. As will become clear, the emendations of two of the texts that I discuss have already been suggested by others...
