Abstract
In 1915, the French and British promised Italy the South Tyrol up to the Brenner Pass if it entered the war against Austria-Hungary. Three years later, in 1918, South Tyrol was occupied by Italy and officially annexed in 1920 through the signing of the Treaty of St. Germain-en-Laye. [from the article]
