Abstract
In this paper we describe the Israeli defense industry, emphasizing its role in Israel’s
industrial development. In particular, we show how the effect of the defense industry
on the economy depends primarily on the following factors:
1. the defense needs of the country;
2. the overall economic situation of the country and the size of its defense industry
relative to the civilian industry;
3. the stage of technological development of the country.
