Abstract
The smallest (critical) size of active penicillin foci in exposed rats' brains was determined by: (a) gradual enlargement of drug application area from 0.4 to 2.5 mm2; and by (b) limitation of active penicillin foci by subpial cuts. A critical area of slightly more than 0.5 mm2 was arrived at by both techniques. The essential role of the horizontal connections in the cortical top three layers to the maintenance of epilepsy was emphasized.
