Abstract
The calculation of fractional fission yields from the measured chemical yields of gas phase reaction products of fission fragments is discussed in terms of the kinetic theory of reactions of hot atoms. It is suggested that reactants and moderators should be chosen so that the average logarithmic energy decrements due to collisions with the reactant (αr) and with the moderator (αr) are approximately equal. If αr ≠ αm misleading conclusions could be reached.
