The development and stabilization of a new electromagnetic suspension

Abstract

This paper describes the recent development of the electromagnetic suspension using tuned LCR circuits. A fully automatic suspension capable of supporting 5 kg freely using a series saturable reactor control is described. Analytical work, treating the system as an electromechanical parametric oscillator, is shown to be capable of yielding useful design data.
