Abstract
The effect of friction on the shanks of rigid projectiles penetrating concrete targets is still an unresolved issue for the terminal-ballistics community. In the present note we argue that this retarding force on the shanks of rigid projectiles can be ignored, by analyzing several sets of experiments that support this conclusion.
