Abstract

The reaction of hot chlorine atoms with methyl iodide was studied as a function of the concentration of inert gas moderator and analyzed by the Estrup-Wolfgang kinetic theory. From the comparison of the reactivity integral for iodine displacement (0·29αClAr) with those of chlorine and bromine atoms in methyl chloride and methyl bromide, respectively, the effect of the bond strength of CH3-X is clearly proven.
