Abstract

Anti-hypertensive and haemodynamic effects of isradipine alpha methyldopa compared to placebo in 48 mild-to-moderate hypertensive males. Following two to four weeks of placebo phase, to establish DBP of 95 -119mmHg and after a baseline exercise test, patients were randomly allocated to one of three treatment groups. After one year of monthly follow-up, the patients underwent a second exercise stress test. Normal BP was achieved under each treatment regimen. All groups exhibited similar SBP and DBP elevations prior to the test compared to clinic test values (p<0.01). None of the of the treatments attenuated exercise-induced SBP elevation.
