Abstract

The uptake of Th(NO₃)₄ and water by hexanol at equilibrium with aqueous solutions of thorium nitrate, has been investigated. The experimental results are found to be consistent with a simple molecular model which assumes that thorium nitrate appears in the organic phase in the form of a single undissociated complex whose formula is Th(NO₃)₄·4C₆H₁₃OH·5H₂O.
