    Abstract

A sink is introduced into the continuity equation to describe the flow of water from the root zone through the plant to the atmposphere. The equation was used to estimate the water distribution pattern in the root zone during subsurface trickle irrigation for different irrigation conditions. The results indicate that the water potential gradient in the root zone under continuous irrigation at low operation pressure head at the emitter is higher than when the water is discharged at high pressure. -from Field Crop Abstracts
