Abstract
It is shown in this paper that the in-plane Poisson ratios of isotropic paper sheets constituted of chemically produced pulps is 1 3, and hence that relatively simple network theories can be used in studying the mechanical behaviour of such sheets. A direct and seemingly reliable technique6 which has been used to obtain Poisson ratios for numerous papers is shown to underestimate true values by a very nearly fixed amount.
