Abstract

The current efficiency in desalting by electrodialysis (ED) is discussed in terms of salt flow through each membrane, driven by the electric current. The correlation between membrane potential and water flow is clarified, indicating that the role of ion/water coupling in electrodialysis is included in the membrane potential. A change of terminology is suggested.
