Abstract

Explosion of fuel mixtures is an important and well known physical phenomenon. In our work, we investigate the explosion limits of a hydrogen-oxygen system,in regards to its 3-branches behavior. Unlike most studies to date, we investigate this phenomenon from a unified approach, taking into consideration the three different explosion limits with a single expression. To do so, we use the Le Chatelier rule and existing descriptions for the different limits. We present a unified ignition limit model that is capable of predicting the explosion limits of the system with good accuracy, compared to experimental results. While physical explanation for our model is still required, we also present another possible approach to the explosion limits phenomenon, by using ignition delay times in lieu of ignition temperatures.
