Abstract

The pion nucleus many body problem is systematically treated and formally solved. The theory is demonstrated for the pion three nucleon system, where we present a set of integral equations (with connected kernel) for the physical amplitudes describing elastic, absorption, and production reactions. The effects of true pion absorption on elastic processes as well as inelastic (pion production) channels in three nucleon scattering are exposed in lowest order. NUCLEAR REACTIONS Pion nucleus reactions, three nucleon scattering, true pion absorption, formal theory of scattering, exact solution, connected equations.
