Abstract

The theory of ideal associated solutions of the type A + B + AB2 has been investigated in detail. The chemical equilibrium, the activity coefficients, the excess thermodynamic functions, and the standard reaction parameters were considered. Special attention was directed towards the evaluation of the boiling and condensation temperature curves for these solutions and the conditions necessary for the occurrence of an azeotrope. The theoretical predictions for the A + B + AB2 model were compared with experimental data for binary methanolpropionic acid systems.
