Abstract

Third-harmonic generation by focused pulses was discussed. It was shown that the group-velocity mismatch, as well as the phase velocity mismatch, can strongly affect the third-harmonic generation. The analysis was limited to cases in which dispersion and Kerr effects can be neglected. The characteristic time scale determined by the difference between the group velocities at the fundamental and its third harmonic was also determined.
