Abstract

In this paper the authors formulate material laws which are based on the micro-structure and mechanical properties of the constituents of the tissue. This approach follows the general structural theory for soft tissues, but considers the specific structural features of the myocardium consisting of muscle fibers and collagen fibers which connect them laterally. Both fiber networks are embedded in a fluid matrix. Our formulation of the constitutive law follows several basic assumptions regarding the structure of the myocardium, which are discussed in the paper in addition to formulation of the constitutive law.
